Dear Little Girl...
Dear little girl,
We live in a messy and complicated and sometimes even cruel world that moves on way too fast. In this world that we live in people will tell you everything that you should be, unaware of the fact of the miracle that you already are.
They will tell you how to look like.
They will tell you how to dress.
They will tell you which size and shape you should have.
They will tell you how your hair should look like.
They will tell you what things you should like.
They will tell you that your value is just determined by your outside.
They will tell you that you are too delicate to be resilient.
No matter how far you go, they won’t believe in your worth.
They will teach you to be insecure.
They will decide what your sex life should be like – and believe me, “not enough” or “to much” will always be keywords in their final review.
They will tell you that you can’t be single and happy at the same time.
They will tell you that you need to get married in order to be fulfilled.
If you marry though, they will tell you that you need to have kids.
If you get married and have kids they will tell you that you have “too many kids” or “not enough” of them – always remember the “not enough” and “too many” keywords.
They will tell you that certain jobs or careers are just “too manly”.
If you are smart, beautiful or successful they will tell you that you are intimidating.
If you are two or more of the aforementioned, they will tell you that you are way too intimidating.
If you are physically strong, they will tell you that you are “too manly to be attractive”.
If you have an opinion, they will tell you that you are too opinionated for being a woman.
If you are outspoken, they will tell you that you are bossy.
If you are kind, they will tell you that you are flirtatious.
If you are assertive, they will tell you that you are a bitch.
My Little girl, there are so many things that the world will teach you to believe that are obviously far from true. Sometimes you would even believe like the pressure is unbearable, like there is nothing in the world that you can do to help it. In the days when they tell you everything that you “should be”, show the world that you are simply better, that you are stronger and wiser than whatever it is that they have in mind for you.
I don’t want you to worry, because no matter how bad the world pushes against you, there is a stronger force inside of you who is resilient enough to push right back. However, I want you to be careful, because sometimes the world can make you feel like you are not good enough or deserving enough. Please, don’t listen to the world then, but rather trust yourself and love yourself even more in those days.
Whenever you feel that way I want you to remember…
Don’t let your voice be silenced.
Don’t let your light be consumed by society.
Never let the world make you believe that you are powerless to change your circumstance.
Never change who you are only because you believe that you are not appreciated.
Never change how you think only because you believe that you are not understood.
Never change how you feel only because they didn’t love you the way you deserved to be loved.
You don’t have to worry being perfect.
You are strong and fascinating and lovely just the way you are
You don’t need to do everything right to stay in the right direction
You don’t need anyone’s validation.
You don’t need anyone’s approval.
You don’t need anyone to come and save you.
You are already gracefully whole.
Imperfectly beautiful and wise and messy and complete and wonderful on your own.
Do not let anyone convince you otherwise.
Do not let anyone make you love yourself less.
Do not let anyone tell you that you are not a once in a lifetime kind of miracle.
Can you promise yourself just that?
